Posted: 30 May 2019 05:35 AM PDT Figures on the right are increasingly turning against Donald Trump after Robert Mueller, speaking publicly for the first time in two years, appeared to hint at the prospect of impeachment. Mr Mueller, reiterating his 448-page report, said in a much-anticipated statement on Wednesday that he "would have said so" if his investigators "had confidence the president clearly did not commit a crime", and noted that only congress has the authority to "formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing".Contradicting attorney general William Barr's claims, the special counsel added his office did not consider charging Mr Trump only because Justice Department policy prohibits indicting a sitting president. Mr Barr had previously claimed Mr Mueller did not consider the guidance when choosing not to charge the president. The special counsel's intervention sparked renewed calls by many Democrats for the House leadership to instigate impeachment enquiries, but Mr Mueller's testimony and report is appearing to have an effect on conservatives too. Justin Amash, who earlier this month became the first Republican in congress to call for Mr Trump's impeachment, on Wednesday doubled down despite anger at him among Mr Trump's base."The ball is in our court, Congress," Mr Amash tweeted after Mr Mueller's statement. Republicans for the Rule of Law, a conservative group dedicated to "defending the institutions of our republic", told Newsweek they would advertise next week on the president's favourite TV news show, Fox & Friends, to urge members of congress to hold Mr Trump accountable. "Everybody — Republicans and Democrats but especially Republicans — need to step up and say, 'Look, this is bigger than the politics of the day, this is about our democratic institutions'. If we don't defend them, that will have an impact on our country for decades to come," a spokesperson told the magazine. Mr Trump's former transition chief, Chris Christie, said Mr Mueller's comments "definitely contradicts" Mr Barr's summary of the special counsel's report. "In the end, on a sitting president, this is the call of the Congress playing their role as a coequal branch of government and they're now going to have to decide what it is they want to do," he added. On Fox News, usually a bastion of support for the president, host Bret Baier said Mr Mueller had contradicted Mr Trump and Mr Barr's interpretation of the report. "This was not, as the president says time and time again, 'no collusion, no obstruction.' It was much more nuanced than that," said Mr Baier, who was last month criticised by the president for interviewing Bernie Sanders. Former Republican congressman Tom Coleman, who has been vocal in his support for impeachment, said whether the president is convicted will be decided by GOP-members in the Senate. "I think we need to see some profiles and courage," he said.Despite Mr Mueller's contradiction of Mr Barr and the president's claims of exoneration, the vast majority of Republicans in congress either remained silent on the issue or echoed the White House line that the "case is closed". "Today's statement by Mr Mueller reinforces the findings of his report," Lindsey Graham, an influential Republican senator said after Mr Mueller's statement. "And as for me, the case is over. Mr Mueller has decided to move on and let the report speak for itself. Congress should follow his lead." |

Motorola just unveiled the $499 Moto Z4 with 2-day battery life and upgradeable 5G Posted: 30 May 2019 06:11 AM PDT The cat was let out of the bag a little early regarding Motorola's new Moto Z4, the $499 handset the company officially unveiled this morning -- and which Amazon mistakenly sold to a user two days before we were supposed to, er, know it existed. Nevertheless, it's here now -- or, rather, it will be soon, as it hits Verizon in the US two weeks from today. In keeping with past Z flagships, Verizon has got the exclusive stateside, and as with the announcement of the Moto Z3 as the world's first "5G-upgradeable" smartphone, the Z4 will likewise be upgradeable to 5G via the company's "Moto Mod" component once 5G networks are available in your area.Among the highlights of this newest addition to Moto's Z series: it will run Android 9 Pie out of the box and sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor. You'll have 4GB of memory and 128 GB of internal storage, with up to 512 GB of expandable storage via microSD. The device also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and promises a battery life of "up to 2 days."Movies, games, and photos should look stunning on the 6.4-inch Max Vision OLED display that stretches from edge to edge and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 85%. The massive 3600 mAh battery here is also the largest ever on a Moto Z. Additionally, the device is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and the company's largest-ever 48-megapixel rear camera sensor that uses new Quad Pixel technology to capture high-quality 12 MP images. The Z4's rear camera also includes 4x better light sensitivity, in addition to optical image stabilization plus AI-guided portrait lighting, AR stickers, live filters, support for Google Lens and much more. Motorola specifically touts Night Vision, which is included in the rear camera software and layers together eight separate frames taken with different exposure values. After performing some dynamic noise reduction and sharpening, the result is an image with enhanced detail and more accurate colors even in situations with challenging lighting.Verizon will start selling the Z4 in Flash Gray on June 13, and in Frost White later this summer, for $499. It will be available for $20.83 for 24 months on a Verizon Device Payment plan, but for a limited time if you switch to Verizon or add a new line and get a Z4 you can pay $10 for 24 months, an overall savings of more than $200.Existing Verizon customers can upgrade to a Z4 and save $100 when they buy a new phone on a Verizon Device Payment plan. Starting June 6, meanwhile, a universally unlocked version of the Z4 will be available for $499 bundled with the Moto 360 camera Mod at Best Buy, B&H Photo and at Amazon, with pre-sales starting today. |

Ex-NBA Star Scottie Pippen Names 5-Year-Old in Lawsuit Over Home Damages Posted: 30 May 2019 04:11 PM PDT Phillip Faraone/GettyFormer Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen has named a 5-year-old girl in a lawsuit over alleged damage to his Florida mansion, claiming she ruined his pad by "defacing" it with crayons and markers. The former basketball player had initially filed the lawsuit against lawyer-turned-comedian Lindsay Glazer and her husband, Jacob Woloshin, in 2018, but amended it this week to include the couple's young daughter. In court documents, Pippen accused Glazer and Woloshin of a "failure as parents" for supposedly allowing their child to "deface certain elements of the property with markers, crayons, and/or cause damage of similar nature" while they rented his six-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion. The lawsuit alleges that damages totaled nearly $110,000 and seeks compensation "in excess of $15,000," excluding legal fees, costs, and interest. In addition to the child's alleged "defacing" of the property with crayons and markers, Pippen has also accused the couple of "neglecting the care of the home," "causing the home to become infected with insects," allowing pets to urinate in the home, and "literally stealing personal household items," among other things. Glazer, who last year jokingly set up a GoFundMe page to "replace [Pippen's] missing knife set" and raised over $700 for charity, laughed off the latest allegations. "All jokes aside, who would have ever thought that Dennis Rodman would be strengthening relations with North Korea, and Scottie 'no tippin' Pippen would be the crazy one suing little girls?" Glazer told the New Times Broward Palm Beach."With all of the publicity this ridiculous case was getting, we thought it good to use it as an opportunity to raise funds for the Fisher House Foundation, which assists military and veteran's families," the comedian told the New Times about the fundraising page.According to The Sun-Sentinel, Pippen was ordered to pay $13,190 more in taxes on the home the same year he sued Glazer. Pippen misidentified the home as his primary residence when he was actually renting the home out, which makes him ineligible for a tax break.Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Posted: 29 May 2019 11:57 PM PDT Disney's chief executive has warned Georgia that the company's film and TV productions are likely to abandon the state if its controversial abortion bill becomes law. Bob Iger said it would be "very difficult" for the entertainment giant to continue working in the state if the so-called "heartbeat bill", which outlaws terminations from as early as six weeks, comes into force. The Walt Disney Company has shot some of its biggest films in the US state, including Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame. Speaking to Reuters, Iger said: "If it becomes law, it'll be very difficult. "I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. "Right now we are watching it very carefully." Sen John Milkovich speaks outside the State Capitol in Louisiana where the House passed Milkovich's 'fetal heartbeat' bill Georgia has been dubbed the "Hollywood of the South" after it lured production companies with favourable tax laws. The state offers a tax credit that has lured many film and TV productions. The industry is responsible for more than 92,000 jobs in Georgia, according to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and some 455 productions were shot in Georgia in 2018, according to the state. However, its proposed abortion laws have caused fury across the industry, with leading stars lining up to condemn the bill. Netflix has also warned it could pull out of the state. Georgia's bill bans abortions in cases where a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks. It is due to come into effect on January 1 2020, although campaigners have already said they will fight it in the courts. It came as last night Louisiana on Wednesday also passed a bill banning abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, becoming the seventh state to do so. The bans are expected to be blocked in lower courts, but supporters plan to appeal such decisions until they reach the Supreme Court. |

Boeing aims for first flight of 777X in late June -sources Posted: 29 May 2019 02:26 PM PDT SEATTLE/PARIS, May 29 (Reuters) - Boeing Co is looking to make the first test flight of its 777X twin-aisle jet as soon as late June, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday, slightly later than the planemaker had planned, but still on track for putting the plane into airline service in 2020. Boeing hopes the new jet will extend its grip on the 'mini-jumbo' market, which it shares with rival Airbus SE's 365-seat A350-1000, and perhaps scoop up fresh orders following the demise of Airbus' A380 superjumbo. The test flight will likely be too late for Boeing to hit its previous target of flying the 777X to the Paris Air Show, which takes place June 17-23, where it had hoped to make a marketing splash in Airbus' backyard. |
Report: CBP Apprehends 1,000+ Migrants in Largest-Ever Bust of Its Kind Posted: 30 May 2019 11:38 AM PDT U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) apprehended a group of more than 1,000 migrants traveling together through the El Paso sector of the U.S.–Mexico border on Wednesday in the largest ever single-group bust in the agency's history. The group consisted of 1,036 migrants hailing from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, according to Fox News. The historic apprehension comes two days after CBP announced the creation of a new administrative position intended to help address the recent influx of asylum-seekers that have overwhelmed federal resources at the southern border. The new Border Patrol processing-coordinator position, which will be implemented in 2020, is designed to allow Border Patrol agents, 40 percent of whom are now entirely consumed by administrative tasks, to return to law-enforcement operations."I am committed to providing the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol the resources they need to accomplish their border-security mission," said Carla Provost, chief of the U.S. Border Patrol. "Border Patrol Processing Coordinators will take on processing, transportation, and custody responsibilities, which will free up agents for critical law-enforcement operations."Department of Homeland Security officials continue to urge Congress to provide increased resources, and craft policy to allow Border Patrol agents greater autonomy, in order to address the overwhelming number of family units arriving at the border each day seeking asylum. According to border patrol, 58,474 families were apprehended at the border last month alone. |
New renders show Apple’s leaked iPhone 11 design from every angle Posted: 30 May 2019 05:21 AM PDT Apple's upcoming new iPhone 11 series smartphones won't be the most exciting new handsets of 2019. Not even close. From the front, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R (if that's what Apple ends up naming them) will sport a design that looks identical to Apple's iPhones from the last two years. Around back, they'll look the same as the iPhone X and iPhone XS apart from a larger and more unsightly square camera bump and slightly different glass that's frosted instead of clear, or so says TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Will they be elegant and sleek? Sure they will. This is Apple, after all. Will they feature fit and finish that's a cut above anything created by Android phone makers in 2019? Of course. To this day, Apple refuses to cut corners or use lesser materials in an effort to decrease costs. Why should it, when the company can get away with charging as much as $1,450 for a single iPhone? If you're looking for excitement, there's plenty to be found elsewhere in the smartphone industry this year. The Galaxy S10 series is already here with a sleek new all-screen design that's interrupted only by a small "hole-punch" camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro is also already available to buy, and its all-screen design has no interruptions thanks to a selfie camera that pops up out of the top edge of the phone. There are more great designs coming later this year, including a revamped hole-punch design on the Galaxy Note 10, and foldable smartphones will make their debut soon as well. So, the new iPhone 11 and its two counterparts certainly aren't the most exciting phones of the year, but they are still the most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2019. We still have more than three months to go before Apple's next-generation iPhones hit store shelves, but a new series of renders should help pass the time by showing us Apple's leaked iPhone 11 design from every angle. As is the case each and every year, the design files for Apple's upcoming new iPhone models were stolen from Foxconn's factory a few months ago. Accessory makers use them to design cases that will be ready in time for the new iPhone models' release, while others use them to mock up Apple's next-gen iPhones for all to see. Such was the case for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R earlier this year, and now we have a new set of renders to enjoy that are based on those earlier leaks. These latest images come from YouTuber Waqar Khan, who mocked up Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 in all three colors we're expecting to see later this year: Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. Here's a closer look at each individual color:Unlike most other mockups we've seen that basically take Apple's iPhone XS and slap a big square camera bump on the back, these renders represent Apple's iPhone 11 much more closely. Aside from the color-matched square camera bump that will now be home to three lenses, the mute switch on the iPhone 11 is small and round like it is on the iPad Pro, and it slides down the side of the iPhone instead of front to back. Here's a video showcasing Khan's new iPhone 11 renders:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHCA32iKKvs |
Charging US president with a crime was 'not an option': Mueller Posted: 29 May 2019 08:38 AM PDT Special Counsel Robert Mueller said Wednesday that charging Donald Trump with a crime of obstruction was not an option because of Justice Department policy not to indict a sitting president. "Under longstanding department policy, a president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office," Mueller said in his first public comments in two years. "A Special Counsel's Office is part of the Department of Justice, and by regulation, it was bound by that department policy," Mueller said. |
Iran Showdown Forces Sign of Breakthrough in Gulf Arab Spat Posted: 30 May 2019 02:56 AM PDT Qatar said that Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani will attend regional summits in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, in the highest-level visit since the kingdom and its allies imposed an embargo on their neighbor in 2017. The visit, the first concrete step toward ending a rift that severed diplomatic and trade ties, comes amid fears the region may be sliding into conflict as the U.S. raises economic and military pressure on Iran. Saudi Arabia called for three meetings -- one for Gulf leaders, another for Arab states and a third for all Muslim nations -- after attacks on its oil facilities and several ships near the Persian Gulf. |

Democrats toughen qualifying standards for third presidential debate Posted: 29 May 2019 07:37 AM PDT Seeking to cull its crowded 2020 presidential field, the Democratic Party will make it tougher for candidates to qualify for a third debate scheduled for September. The party will require contenders to meet both a higher polling standard and a larger fundraising target, the Democratic National Committee said on Wednesday. In the first two debates, scheduled for June and July, contenders have to meet just one of the two criteria, leaving open the possibility that as many as 20 of the 24 announced Democratic candidates could be on stage. |

‘Large and Extremely Dangerous’: Kansas Tornado Leaves a Dozen Injured Posted: 28 May 2019 09:49 PM PDT Kyle Rivas/GettyA swift-moving tornado that tore through eastern Kansas late Tuesday has left at least a dozen people injured and more than 13,000 without power.Large amounts of debris, including toppled trees, live wires and leveled homes have left some parts of the city of Lawrence completely impassable, police said. Photos circulating on Twitter Tuesday night showed wrecked cars, soiled furniture, tattered clothes and wooden beams scattered across lawns and city streets. As of midnight on Tuesday, there were no reported fatalities, though videos of close-calls with one twister believed to be a mile-wide flooded social media. For residents in many areas of eastern Kansas and western Missouri, the night was one of wailing sirens and debris "falling from the sky," as the National Weather Service repeatedly warned. On Twitter, the agency frantically sought to keep up with multiple reports of tornadoes and ominously listed all the areas in the path of a "large and extremely dangerous tornado" that at one point was heading straight for Kansas City. In many areas, residents were told exactly how many minutes they'd have to take shelter. "If you live in LINWOOD, KS TAKE SHELTER NOW! The tornado will be there within the next 5 minutes!" the NWS tweeted. Linwood Mayor Brian Christenson later told CNN dozens of homes outside of Lawrence were "all gone." Authorities were still working to survey the damage on Tuesday night, and Christenson said he'd seen entire roofs torn off homes in certain areas. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirmed the reported injuries in Lawrence were caused by the twister. "We know some have gone to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and we do know that some have been taken to other area hospitals," Sgt. Kristen Channel told The Kansas City Star, noting that they could not say the exact number or how severe they were. Lawrence Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Janice Early also told The Star that the medical center had received 12 patients with tornado-related injuries. The number of tornado warnings rocketed in the last 24 hours, including in the Dayton, Ohio area where a deadly twister killed one man. The Lawrence storm is also one of more than a dozen reports of tornadoes Tuesday evening in what could be a record-breaking streak. More than 500 reports of tornadoes were received by the National Weather Service in the last 30 days, according to The Weather Channel, making it the longest, most active period for tornadoes in the U.S. in eight years. The service also reportedly ordered local TV stations in Kansas City to use "the strongest language you can" to warn residents of the incoming tornado late Tuesday. The East Coast was also pummeled by storms late Tuesday, with the NWS confirming a twister in eastern Pennsylvania and issuing a tornado warning for northern New Jersey and parts of New York City. Apple is looking into building foldable iPhones out of glass Posted: 29 May 2019 03:04 PM PDT Samsung wasted the opportunity to become the first major smartphone vendor to launch a foldable handset, as the Galaxy Fold turned out to have a few design flaws that compromised the screens during regular use. It's not that Samsung had the best foldable phone design out there, but the Korean giant has been at the forefront of foldable smartphone hype for years. We've been waiting for two years for the Galaxy Fold to arrive, but Samsung kept pushing the launch event as it was still perfecting the phone's design and software. Making foldable handsets, as it turns out, isn't easy, and the Galaxy Fold's early misfortune is a testament to that. On the other hand, Samsung does deserve some praise for pushing the envelope when it comes to new form factors. Someone had to do it, regardless of the risk. But Samsung is hardly alone, as everyone else in the business is working on such devices, including Huawei, which unveiled its Mate X at the same time as the Galaxy Fold. One of these companies is Apple, which has been rumored to be working on foldable iPhones for quite a while. Such a radical design change isn't expected for another few years, but it looks more and more like Apple is dedicating ample time to studying foldable devices. The iPhone maker was just awarded a patent for a Foldable cover and display for an electronic device (US Patent No. 10,303,218). The documentation was filed on January 12th, and it's hardly the first proof we got that Apple is interested in foldable handsets. As always, just because Apple owns patents describing new technologies doesn't guarantee these innovations will be included in any future devices. But the patent seems to suggest that Apple has given the subject a great deal of thought, as foldable devices may have several advantages over traditional electronics, whether they're smartphones or laptops:> Traditionally, electronic devices have a single form factor that may be driven by the size and shape of the display. Because many traditional displays are rigid or at least not flexible, a traditional device that is adaptable to accommodate multiple form factors includes the use of a mechanical hinge or pivot joint. However, these traditional configurations used for traditional notebook and tablet devices are inherently limited by the integration and size required by a separate mechanical hinge.> > Embodiments described herein are directed to devices and techniques for forming portable electronic devices having a flexible cover coupled to a flexible display that do not have the limitations or drawbacks associated with some traditional solutions. The documentation reveals not only potential designs for flexible iPhones and iPads but also goes into great detail on how to manufacture flexible covers to ensure they both work as intended, and are durable enough to protect the screen underneath the flexible glass.Apple proposes foldable devices that could have as many as two hinges and three distinct screen parts that could fold in an "S" shape, or a "G" shape, as seen in these drawings. Furthermore, Apple explains that several areas of the screens could be in use at different times and that the device could be partially unfolded to increase the available screen size. The patent looks at various techniques for creating flexible cover sheets, listing several ceramic materials that could be used for the foldable screens, including chemically strengthened glass, sapphire, or zirconia. What's interesting is that Apple focuses on glass/ceramic for manufacturing the cover sheets rather than other materials, whereas phones like the Galaxy Fold and Mate X do not have glass displays.Apple explains how these foldable sheets of glass would have to be manufactured to ensure they can be bent around an axis safely and survive the stress generated by repeatedly folding and unfolding the screen, and describes the complex system of layers of a flexible display. The document also looks at ways to ensure the finished product has a smooth surface, one that would improve the appearance of the device and the user experience. Finally, the patent focuses on the cover sheet of the foldable device, which means it doesn't feature any details about the other important part of a flexible gadget: The hinge. Then again, this isn't Apple's only patent on flexible devices -- just another piece in the flexible iPhone puzzle. That said, we'll have to wait and see whether Apple will launch a foldable iPhone or iPad in the near future that will make use of any of the inventions described in this patent. |

Microsoft hints at new features and big changes coming in Windows 11 Posted: 29 May 2019 02:02 PM PDT When compared to Windows Vista and Windows 8, Windows 10 has been a runaway success. That's not to say that Microsoft's latest operating system is perfect, but it improved upon its predecessors in nearly every way and has only gotten better in the years since it first rolled out to the public. But nearly four years on, Microsoft has begun to look to the future and may have given us a peek at Windows 11 in a new blog post. After offering a rundown on all of the latest Windows PCs from a variety of manufacturers, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Nick Parker changed gears to talk about the "modern operating system" that will power all these machines. Although he never mentions Windows by name, he certainly seems to be hinting at something big.Parker says the foundation of the modern OS will be enablers ("that deliver the foundational experiences customers expect from their devices") and delighters ("that deliver innovative human centric experiences"). Enablers consist of seamless updates that occur in the background without any interruptions, comprehensive protection from malicious attacks, the ability to be connected to Wi-Fi and 5G at all times, and sustained performance.Delighters, on the other hand, are what elevate the experience of actually using an OS. Cloud connectivity, intelligent AI, multi-sense interaction, and something Parker calls "form factor agility," which is quite a buzz-phrase. Finally, here is an interesting quote from Parker about the so-called modern OS from Microsoft:> These enablers and delighters underpin our vision for a Modern OS, they will provide the foundational elements for an evolution of the PC ecosystem and enable partners to deliver the more human-centric experiences of tomorrow. Microsoft is investing to enable these modern OS experiences, and to deliver new ones that take advantage of silicon advancements, powerful PCs, the cloud and power of AI.All in all, it's a rather vague list of features and concepts that may or may not be the defining features of Windows 11, or Windows Lite, or whatever comes next from Microsoft. He may just be talking about the next evolution of Windows 10, but four years is the longest the company has gone without releasing a new OS since Windows XP. Perhaps Microsoft is setting the stage for a major announcement in the months to come. |
Pelosi: Impeachment Not ‘Off the Table’ but Dems Still Need to Make a ‘Compelling’ Case Posted: 29 May 2019 01:09 PM PDT House speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that she has not yet ruled out the possibility of opening an impeachment inquiry against President Trump, but stipulated that she would only do so if the case was sufficiently compelling to convince congressional Republicans to turn on the administration.Addressing her constituents at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, Pelosi responded to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Wednesday press conference by reiterating her commitment to only pursue impeachment on an irrefutable, bipartisan basis."Many constituents want to impeach the president. But we want to do what is right and what gets results. What gets results," Pelosi said. "But we do want to make such a compelling case, such an ironclad case that even the Republican Senate would — at this time [it] seems to be not an objective jury — will be convinced of the path that we have to take as a country."Mueller, in his first public remarks since being appointed more than two years ago, emphasized the limitations placed on him by Department of Justice guidelines that prohibit the indictment of a sitting president, and suggested Congress must now determine whether the president's attempts to obstruct his investigation warrant further censure."If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so," Mr. Mueller said, reading from prepared notes behind a lectern at the Justice Department. "We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime."In response, a number of prominent 2020 Democratic presidential aspirants reiterated their calls for impeachment, arguing that Mueller's Wednesday remarks served as an implicit instruction to pursue that course of action.Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer have long resisted their colleagues' calls to begin impeachment proceedings, believing that doing so would unnecessarily inflame partisan divisions and potentially deprive the American people of an opportunity to rebuke Trump in 2020. They maintained that posture Wednesday in their respective written statements despite the urging of the party's presidential contenders. |
Voter Apathy in Nigeria Clouds President Buhari's New Tenure Posted: 29 May 2019 03:05 AM PDT While Buhari won 56% of the ballots cast on Feb. 23, only 15.2 million of the 29 million registered voters backed him. The 35% turnout, down from 44% in the last elections four years ago and a peak of 69% in 2003, is the latest indicator of mounting voter apathy in Africa's biggest democracy. "Many Nigerians, particularly the poor, are yet to feel the impact of democracy in terms of improved welfare and livelihood," said Idayat Hassan, executive director of the Abuja-based Centre for Democracy and Development. |

Of the Arkansas River, he said: "It's a beautiful sight until it comes to get you." Don’t ask how AirPods 2 are still discounted on Amazon, just get a pair Posted: 29 May 2019 06:49 AM PDT When Amazon first slashed the price of the Second-Generation Apple AirPods with Charging Case, we called it a "rare" deal. And of course it was, since brand new Apple products almost never get a discount, let alone the 12% discount Amazon offered on the AirPods 2. It has now been a few weeks though, and the price is still down to an all-time low of $139.99. So at this point, we can't really call the deal "rare" anymore. We can tell you that you should hurry up and order a pair though, because once this deal is done there's no telling if or when it will be back. Note that AirPods 2 are sold out right now, but you can still place your order to lock in the discount and they should ship within a few weeks. Here are the highlights from the product page: * Automatically on, automatically connected * Easy setup for all your Apple devices * Quick access to Siri by saying "Hey Siri" * Double-tap to play or skip forward * New Apple H1 headphone chip delivers faster wireless connection to your devices * Charges quickly in the case * Case can be charged using the Lightning connector * Rich, high-quality audio and voice * Seamless switching between devices * Listen and talk all day with multiple charges from the Charging Case |
