May Said to Pull Parliament Vote on Her Deal: Brexit Update Posted: 10 Dec 2018 03:31 AM PST U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May has called off a crucial vote in Parliament on whether to approve her Brexit deal, after being warned she was on course for a devastating defeat, according to a person familiar with the matter. May's office publicly insisting it was going ahead as recently as 11.20 a.m. on Monday but the prospect of an overwhelming revolt from members of Parliament forced the premier to think again. "The British people gave a clear instruction to leave, and we are delivering on that instruction," a government spokesman said in response to the ECJ ruling on revoking Article 50. |

No-deal Brexit more likely amid 'confused' situation in London, France says Posted: 10 Dec 2018 08:41 AM PST A costly British exit from the European Union without a negotiated deal is increasingly likely, France's European affairs minister said on Monday, after British Prime Minister Theresa May postponed a vote on a deal in the face of defeat. "We must not lose sight of the fact that despite the latest developments, a rejection of the withdrawal agreement is more and more likely," Nathalie Loiseau told lawmakers. "The risk of a no-deal exit would also be an exit that would be undoubtedly extremely costly for the United Kingdom but which would be damaging for the EU too." "Some are drawing up other scenarios and the confusion in London remains particularly strong," she added. |

"The results reveal the declining political stock of Narendra Modi going into the national elections," said Katharine Adeney, director of University of Nottingham's Asia Research Institute. |
