Egypt says no theory yet in Russian plane crash probe Posted: 07 Nov 2015 01:00 PM PST Egypt pushed back Saturday against international suspicions that a bomb downed a Russian plane in the Sinai, as investigators said the cause of the crash that killed 224 was still unknown. Initial observations from the cockpit voice recorder on the Airbus A-321 were made public amid intensifying restrictions on air travel that threatened to cripple Egypt's vital tourism industry. In the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, from where the doomed airliner took off on October 31, thousands of Russian and British tourists waited for word of when they could fly home. |

Disillusioned young Poles lend refugees a helping hand Posted: 07 Nov 2015 11:53 AM PST Angered by their country's foot-dragging on Europe's refugee crisis, 30 young Poles are lending a helping hand to refugees in the Balkans, breathing new life into a "Solidarity" ethic made famous in Poland in the 1980s. "We're heading to the Balkans this week with clothing for refugees," says Maciej Bulanda, 26, one of four friends who launched the aid drive on Facebook by creating the Dobrowolki ("volunteers" or "goodwillers") page. Soon they will set off on the 2,000-kilometre (1,200-mile) journey south to Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia. |

Will George H.W. Bush biography help - or hurt - Jeb Bush campaign? Posted: 07 Nov 2015 11:00 AM PST A new biography of George H.W. Bush, titled "Destiny and Power: the American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush" by Jon Meacham, has re-opened commentary on both the 41st US president and the political legacy he left behind. It also invites the question of whether the book will help – or hurt – his son's campaign for the 2016 presidency. The book has been released at a time when Jeb Bush faces steep challenges in the polls, holding just 5.8 precent of possible voters. |

Russia suspends Egypt flights, U.S. boosts security as intelligence points to bomb Posted: 06 Nov 2015 01:52 PM PST By Andrew Osborn and Mark Hosenball MOSCOW/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Moscow suspended passenger flights to Egypt and the United States imposed new air travel security requirements in the wake of the crash of a Russian jet in Egypt, as Western officials pointed on Friday to the conclusion it was brought down by a bomb. A group affiliated with Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the crash of an Airbus A321 operated by a Russian carrier on Saturday that was bringing holidaymakers home from a resort on Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. All 224 people on board were killed in what the militants described as revenge for Russian air strikes in Syria that began more than a month ago. |
