Joe Biden adopted a German shepherd and he's precious :')Joe Biden just welcomed a majorly cute addition to his family — a German shepherd named Major. On Saturday, the former Vice President and his wife Jill officially adopted Major the rescue dog, who they've been fostering, from the Delaware Humane Association in Wilmington, Delaware. SEE ALSO: Barack Obama and Joe Biden got lunch together, because some bromances never die "We are so happy to welcome Major to the Biden family, and we are grateful to the Delaware Humane Association for their work in finding forever homes for Major and countless other animals," the Bidens said in a statement that the shelter shared to Facebook. According to the Delaware Humane Association, Major was one of six puppies brought to the shelter "after being exposed to something toxic in their home." Their original owner was unable to afford proper veterinary care, so they began looking for loving homes. After sharing the pup's stories on social media, Biden reportedly reached out to show interest, and that's how he fell in love with Major. The DHA shared several photos of the former VP making the adoption official on Facebook, including one of Biden showing Major a picture of himself as a puppy. DHA also shared a photo and video of the two leaving the shelter. From the looks of it, Major seems right at home with Biden and has quite the support team back at the shelter. Here's hoping he'll get to play with Bo and Sunny Obama soon. On patrol with the Iraqi militia hunting the last remnants of the Islamic State group

On patrol with the Iraqi militia hunting the last remnants of the Islamic State group

Although the Islamic State group has been defeated militarily in Iraq, members of the militia group still find areas to hide. Some parts of the Sunni population give them shelter. They also find cover in the mountains around Hawija. From their hiding places, they set up attacks: Suddenly popping up at improvised checkpoints in the winding roads that lead through the hills, they arrest or kill those passing, or take hostages and blackmail the government for possible prisoner exchanges. They also place IEDs and send suicide attackers into cities in the region.

Iraqi federal police have outposts in the region, but their patrols only operate during the day. At night, they retreat to their bases, when the caliphate of terror becomes a guerrilla terror group.

The Islamic State group's favorite targets are members of the Shia militia al-Hashd al-Shaabi. Also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, are Shia-dominated militia was created in 2014 following a fatwa issued by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Iraq's most influential Shiite cleric. Victory over the Islamic State group in Iraq would be inconceivable without al-Hashd al-Shaabi, which filled the gap left by the Iraqi Army. But they are also an Iran-supported force operating in a traditional Sunni area in Iraq.  And members of the Shia-dominated militia have been accused of massacring Iraqi Sunnis.

Today, al-Hashd al-Shaabi is fighting sleeper cells and defending against Islamic State group attacks. Unlike the Iraqi federal police in the region, they can react quickly because they don't have to follow a strict chain of command.

North Korea weapons test is a shot across the bow of Washington

Posted: 18 Nov 2018 10:22 PM PST

North Korea weapons test is a shot across the bow of WashingtonThe test-firing of an "ultramodern tactical weapon" by the North Korean military sends messages to both domestic and international audiences, according to analysts, with the presence of Kim Jong-un at Friday's exercises underlining Pyongyang's resolve to stand up to Washington. North Korean state media reported that the North Korean leader "supervised" a test of a weapon that is "a decisive turn in the fighting capacity of the Korean People's Army".  The South Korean government believes the new weapon to be a long-range artillery piece - possibly a mobile launcher for conventional rockets with an advanced guidance system - that has been in development since the rule of Kim Jong-il, who died in 2011. "There have been reports in recent years that the North was developing long-range artillery that would be able to hit the US garrison at Camp Humphreys or the air force base at Osan", said Daniel Pinkston, a professor of international relations at the Seoul campus of Troy University.  The two bases are critical to US forces' ability to defend South Korea and both about 60 miles from the Demilitarised Zone that divides the peninsula. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspects Samjiyon County Credit: Reuters "It's clear that they are still working on conventional weapons systems, which is important to the North's leadership and its view of the world that it needs a robust military capability", he told The Telegraph.  "The message this sends is aimed at an inter-Korean audience and China and says that Pyongyang remains resolute, that it refuses to be pushed around and that it will continue to exploit any benefits that it can find". The test will also have been aimed squarely at the US, believes James Brown, an associate professor who specialises in North Korean issues at the Tokyo campus of Temple University, who believes the process of scrapping the North's nuclear weapons capabilities in return for lifting sanctions has "become stuck".  "The two sides each feel that the other needs to do more," he said. "The US says the North must take more steps on its nuclear programmes and has threatened to restart large-scale military exercises if that does not happen. "The North Koreans think they have done enough and that it is time for the US to ease some of the sanctions, and their threat is that they will go back to carrying out nuclear tests again," he said.  North Korea's nuclear history: key moments The test of a conventional weapons system - albeit a potent one - is significant on a political level more than on an operational level, Mr Brown said, with Mr Kim's presence elevating the importance of the test even further.  The significance of the tests - which were extensively covered in North Korean media - will not have been lost on Seoul, which has also called on Washington to relax some of the sanctions.  Pyongyang will not want to miss an opportunity to drive a wedge between the two allies on its southern border, Mr Brown said, although the administration of President Donald Trump appears to be in no mood to grant concessions to the North. The US perceives North Korea as dragging its feet on coming clean on its nuclear capabilities and busy soliciting help from other nations - notably China and Russia - to support its calls for sanctions to be lifted.
