Three Turkish soldiers, one police killed in Kurdish militant attacks Posted: 15 Aug 2015 02:38 PM PDT Three Turkish soldiers and a police officer were killed in separate incidents on Saturday, security sources said, as violence roils the country's mainly Kurdish southeast in recent weeks following the end of a two-year ceasefire. The soldiers were killed and six more were wounded when militants from the autonomy-seeking Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) detonated a remote-controlled explosive that hit a military convoy traveling near the town of Bingol, the General Staff said on its website. The police officer, who was part of a special operations unit, was killed after PKK rebels opened fire near the town of Semdinli, close to the Iraqi border, a security source said. |

The latest deaths bring to seven the number of security forces killed in the last 24 hours by Kurdish rebels, who have stepped up their attacks on members of Turkish army in an escalating cycle of violence that has left a 2013 ceasefire agreed by the PKK in tatters. The strikes were concentrated near Ramadi with coalition forces launching five as part of an attempt to clear the way for the Iraqi army to recapture the city that fell to the Islamic State in May.
