Married with two young sons, he joined the Army after working at a credit union and this was his first deployment to Iraq. A chain smoker for most if his deployment, Morris quit smoking before he went home.

Spc. Derek Griffard: `Live my life to the fullest' (AP) Posted: 16 Mar 2009 10:00 AM PDT AP - Spc. Derek Griffard, 22, from Santa Maria, Calif., was wounded by a roadside bomb during a foot patrol on Oct. 15, 2008, on his first deployment to Iraq. Griffard, who is single and whose parents both served in the Army, carried rosary beads from his first communion while in Iraq.

Cole Weih, 28, of Dubuque, Iowa, was the medic for Killer Blue and was on his first deployment to Iraq. Before joining the Army, Weih lived in Australia for 10 years and earned a degree in sociology. Weih, who is single, carried his grandfather's dog tags from World War II.

Spc. Nathan Stopps: `A privilege to fight a war' (AP) Posted: 16 Mar 2009 10:00 AM PDT AP - Spc. Nathan Stopps, 24, from Deerfield, Ill., was wounded by a roadside bomb during a foot patrol on Oct. 15, 2008, on his first deployment to Iraq. Stopps holds a bachelor's degree in English Literature, and is single.

Staff Sgt. Chad Caldwell: `Life of the platoon' (AP) Posted: 16 Mar 2009 09:47 AM PDT AP - Staff Sgt. Chad Caldwell called his wife from Iraq the night his first son was born and heard his son's first loud cry over a cell phone. Caldwell joined the Army in 2002, served one tour in Iraq, then a second combat tour in Afghanistan. In February 2007 he signed up for an another tour in Iraq.
