Southern Ohioans Reflect on Operation Desert Storm -- 20 Years Later (ContributorNetwork) Posted: 12 Jan 2011 01:38 PM PST ContributorNetwork - Jan. 16/17 will mark 20 years since the initial "shock and awe" airstrikes of Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. The current conflict in the same region two decades after American and allied forces attempted to remove the despot, Saddam Hussein, from power prompts memories and still raw emotions of the military action. Here is what residents of the Chillicothe area in southern Ohio are thinking as the anniversary approaches. |
Two Veterans Reflect on Operation Desert Storm (ContributorNetwork) Posted: 12 Jan 2011 01:38 PM PST ContributorNetwork - On Jan. 16/17, 1991, American forces launched air and missile attacks on Iraqi and Kuwaiti targets, signifying the beginning of Operation Desert Storm. To commemorate the 20th anniversary, I spoke with veterans Frank Molinario (U.S. Air Force) and Joseph Chapman (U.S. Army), about their reflections on the war. Molinario served as a loadmaster on C-141B aircraft (airman) during Operation Desert Storm and is now a human resources generalist in Hobart, N.Y. Chapman was a wrecker specialist and quick reaction team leader (private second class) and continues to serve as an Army staff sergeant at Fort Drum, N.Y. |

The impetus for this war began with Saddam Hussein's accusation of Kuwait for overproducing and stealing oil. This led to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and involvement of the United States. Lou Windsor, 23-year Air Force veteran, now retired from the service, was there from beginning to end. Currently a project manager for Global Client Services at Verizon Business in Huntsville, Ala., Windsor looks back and reflects on Operation Desert Storm and his military career. |
