Former U.S. astronaut Poindexter dies in watercraft accident Posted: 02 Jul 2012 01:28 PM PDT CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - Alan Poindexter, a two-time space shuttle astronaut, has died after a personal watercraft accident in Pensacola, Florida, NASA said on Monday. Poindexter, 50, was riding WaveRunners with his two sons in Little Sabine Bay at Pensacola Beach on Sunday when the accident occurred, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said. Poindexter and his 22-year-old son Samuel were riding on one WaveRunner and his older son, 26-year-old Zachary, was on another, spokesman Stan Kirkland said. ... |

"The export of Iran's natural gas to Turkey resumed a few minutes ago after a request by Turkey and after the damaged pipeline was repaired," Mehr reported. Fort Bragg Shooter Dies From His Wounds Posted: 02 Jul 2012 04:48 AM PDT The Army soldier who killed his superior officer on Thursday and then shot himself, died from his wounds a day later. The solider in question was identified by officials at Fort Bragg as Specialist Ricky G. Elder, a 27-year-old infantryman from Kansas. Elder shot and killed his battalion commander, Lt. Col. Roy Tisdale (pictured above), during an outdoor meeting on the North Carolina base last week. A third soldier was wounded, but has been released from the hospital. |

Brent dips towards $96 after weak China data Posted: 01 Jul 2012 11:14 PM PDT SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Brent crude fell towards $96 a barrel on Monday, dragged down by weak factory data from top energy consumer China and as doubts remained over an EU deal which had helped prices post their fourth biggest daily gain on record in the previous session. A European Union oil embargo on Iranian oil shipments, which took effect on Sunday, should lend some support to prices, but analysts said the grim global macroeconomic picture was likely to cap possible gains. Brent crude fell $1.46 to $96.34 a barrel by 0542 GMT while U.S. crude shed $1.15 to trade at $83.81. ... |
