Saudi Arabia rejects Iran's claim it backed parade attack Posted: 25 Sep 2018 09:16 AM PDT Saudi Arabia denied it had backed the gunmen who killed 25 people at a military parade in southwestern Iran over the weekend, almost half of them Revolutionary Guards, the Saudi state news agency reported on Tuesday. "Saudi Arabia rejects and condemns the false accusations that Iranian officials have made about Saudi Arabia supporting the events that took place in Iran last Saturday," SPA quoted a foreign ministry official as saying. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the attackers were paid by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and pledged that the Islamic Republic would "severely punish" those behind the assault. |

Brent oil jumps to four-year high near $81 Posted: 24 Sep 2018 02:44 AM PDT Brent oil soared Monday close to $81, reaching the highest level since November 2014 after OPEC and other global producers snubbed pressure from US President Donald Trump to dampen prices. Oil leapt after the world's top producers decided to maintain output during a meeting in Algeria at the weekend. A committee comprised of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) cartel and non-OPEC producers said it was satisfied with the current market outlook, which represented "an overall healthy balance between supply and demand". |
Pompeo to meet Russia's Lavrov amid U.S. concern on missile sale to Syria Posted: 24 Sep 2018 09:28 AM PDT U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday he expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in New York as Washington expressed concern at Moscow's plans to supply the S-300 surface-to-air missile system to Syria. "I'm sure Sergei and I will have our time together," Pompeo said of plans to meet Lavrov on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations. "We are trying to find every place we can where there is common ground, where we can work with the Russians," adding that there were many areas where Moscow was working against the United States and "we will hold them accountable." Russia announced on Monday it will supply a S-300 missile system to Syria in two weeks despite strong Israeli objections, a week after Moscow blamed Israel for indirectly causing the downing of a Russian military plane in Syria. |

Judge blocks Trump administration's decision to allow grizzly bear hunting Posted: 25 Sep 2018 02:14 AM PDT A US judge has reinstated protection for grizzly bears in and around the Yellowstone National Park, ending plans for the first licensed trophy hunts in the region for decades. District judge Dana Christensen ruled Donald Trump's administration failed to properly consider the long-term survival of the species when it stripped the bears of their endangered status. The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) lifted federal protections for the roughly 700 grizzlies in the Rocky Mountains in 2017, paving the way for hunting to resume in Idaho and Wyoming. |

The lawsuit centers on Daniels' assertion that a man approached her in 2011 in a Las Vegas parking lot and made a veiled threat after she agreed to talk about her alleged encounter with Trump to In Touch magazine. Soon after Daniels released a sketch of the man she said threatened her, Trump, who has denied having an affair with Daniels, disputed her account on Twitter, saying: "A sketch years later about a nonexistent man. |

Trump says he will not consider statehood for Puerto Rico because of San Juan mayor Posted: 24 Sep 2018 01:54 PM PDT President Donald Trump has been criticised as "insensitive" and "disrespectful" after saying he does not support the idea of recognising Puerto Rico as a US state because the mayor of San Juan is "incompetent". The president made the comments on Monday, suggesting he would not support the idea of Puerto Rican statehood as long as Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of its capital and largest city, remained in office. "With the mayor of San Juan as bad as she is and as incompetent as she is, Puerto Rico shouldn't be talking about statehood until they get some people that really know what they're doing," Mr Trump said in an interview with Geraldo Rivera. |

The 2019 Subaru Forester Goes for Mass Appeal Posted: 24 Sep 2018 05:59 AM PDT As we type this, Subaru is chasing its 82nd consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth. This comes as no surprise to those of us who live and work in Car and Driver's hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where it seems that every other car is an Outback. A brand name that once conjured images of rally racing is now more synonymous with trips to the grocery store, and with this new generation the Forester has lost both its manual transmission and its available turbocharged engine, with no signs that either will make a return. |
Ford executive says may boost production in China to avoid tariffs Posted: 24 Sep 2018 05:24 PM PDT Ford is looking at speeding up plans to build more Lincoln models in Chinese plants amid the growing trade war with the United States that has made US exports less attractive, a senior executive said Monday. Joseph Hinrichs, Ford's executive vice president for global operations, said he did not see any easy resolution to the trade dispute between the United States and China. President Donald Trump on Monday imposed tariffs on an additional $200 billion in Chinese goods, prompting swift retaliation from Beijing on $60 billion in US products. |

Gilead to launch generic versions of its hepatitis drugs Posted: 24 Sep 2018 01:47 PM PDT (Reuters) - Gilead Sciences Inc said on Monday it plans to launch generic versions of its hepatitis C drugs in the United States, at a time when regulators are looking to lower healthcare costs. The drugmaker's generic version of drugs such as Harvoni and Epclusa, which raked in combined sales of $831 million in the quarter ended June 30, will be launched via a newly created subsidiary Asegua Therapeutics LLC. Gilead's decision comes more than a month after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd's copycat version of Mylan NV's life-saving allergy injection, EpiPen. U.S. healthcare companies, ranging from insurers to drug retailers, are stepping up efforts to combat rising drug prices that have been widely criticized by regulators. |
Israel to keep fighting Iran in Syria, coordinating with Russia: Netanyahu Posted: 25 Sep 2018 06:01 AM PDT Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged Tuesday to continue combatting Iranian "entrenchment" in Syria and coordinating with Russia after the downing of one of Moscow's planes. After chaotic day, Rosenstein stays in job but will meet with Trump Posted: 24 Sep 2018 01:06 PM PDT Rosenstein had spent the weekend contemplating whether he should resign after a New York Times report last week said he had suggested secretly recording Trump in 2017, a source told Reuters. The White House announced the meeting on Monday after a flurry of conflicting media reports about whether Rosenstein, a frequent target of Trump's anger, would be leaving the post. "At the request of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, he and President Trump had an extended conversation to discuss the recent news stories," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said on Twitter. |

Here’s A Glimpse At China’s New J-20 Stealth Fighter Posted: 24 Sep 2018 12:19 PM PDT Although the J-20 has been pushed into service, recent problems with the J-15 carrier-based fighter suggest that the Chinese answer to the F-22 isn't quite ready for prime-time despite propaganda from Chinese-owned media outlets that portray the J-20 as a fully-armed and operational battle station. That certainly sounds familiar. |
Iran top aide dismisses U.S. meeting offer as 'Trump's dream' Posted: 25 Sep 2018 04:20 AM PDT Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards also kept up the anti-U.S. rhetoric in the build up to the U.N. session, calling President Donald Trump "evil and adventurous" and accusing him of waging economic war on Tehran. Trump pulled out of an international nuclear deal with Iran in May, and has since started reinstating economic penalties and pressing other countries to stop buying Iranian oil. Trump said in July he was ready to meet Iran's President Hassan Rouhani without preconditions to negotiate a new deal. |
