U.S., allies target militants in 23 air strikes in Syria, Iraq: U.S. Posted: 09 Aug 2015 11:16 AM PDT WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S.-led forces conducted 16 air strikes in Iraq and seven in Syria on Saturday against Islamic State targets, the U.S. military said. In Iraq, five air strikes near Mosul, three near Ramadi and three near Sinjar aimed to beat back the militants, destroying excavators, tactical units, buildings and weapons, the Combined Joint Task Force said on Sunday in a statement. The Turkish military launched an air campaign against PKK camps in northern Iraq on July 24 after a resurgence of militant attacks. State-run Anadolu news agency said more than 260 militants had been killed, including senior PKK figures, and more than 400 wounded by Aug. 1. |

Iraqi cabinet approves PM Abadi's reform package: spokesman Posted: 09 Aug 2015 02:57 AM PDT BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's council of ministers on Sunday approved a package of reform measures, including cancelling the positions of vice president and deputy prime minister, spokesman Saad al-Hadithi told Reuters. The development is likely to anger critics of the accord, not least in the United States and Israel, but may be welcomed by Iranians eager for Iran to reopen to the outside world. The IRGC will act for Western firms in many ways as a gatekeeper to some of the most lucrative areas of Iran's economy. |
