Iran wants to expand missile range despite U.S. opposition Posted: 04 Dec 2018 06:45 AM PST Iran wants to increase its missiles' range, a senior military official was quoted as saying on Tuesday, a move that would irk the United States which views Tehran's weapons program as a regional security threat. U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out of an international nuclear agreement in May and reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic, criticizing the deal for not including curbs on Iran's development of ballistic missiles. "One of our most important programs is increasing the range of missiles and ammunition," said the head of the Iranian air force, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, according to the semi-official Fars news agency. |

Before He Was President, George HW Bush Was The Man Who Fixed The CIA Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:07 AM PST Before George H.W. Bush found himself seated in the Oval Office, he was appointed by former President Gerald Ford to be director of the then scandal-ridden CIA. As reported by the Daily Beast, it wasn't exactly Bush's first choice, given that he had been on the shortlist to be Ford's vice-president. The climate at the agency at the time didn't appeal to Bush either, and he felt that Ford was trying to kill his political career with the unexpected appointment. |

Medtronic to pay $51 million to resolve U.S. medical device probes Posted: 04 Dec 2018 03:55 PM PST Medtronic Plc said on Tuesday it would pay $50.9 million to resolve U.S. Justice Department probes into how companies it later acquired marketed medical devices, including one meant to treat a vascular defect in the brain. As part of the accord, ev3 Inc, which Medtronic now owns, will pay $17.9 million and plead guilty to a charge related to its marketing of a neurovascular medical device for unproven and potentially dangerous uses, federal prosecutors in Boston said. The misdemeanor charge relates to the Onyx Liquid Embolic System, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2005 approved for the limited use of blocking blood flow to arteriovenous malformations in the brain. |

US farmers more cautious than hopeful after China trade deal Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:54 PM PST President Donald Trump says American farmers will see immediate benefits from the trade detente with Beijing, but farm belt representatives are still cautious about declaring victory. Trump's comments were followed by White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow, who told a press briefing that he expects Chinese tariffs on US farm goods would be removed "quickly," without elaborating. US soybean exports to China since September 1 have fallen to 339,000 tons from nearly 15 million tons in the year-ago period. |
