Trump, on Twitter, upends U.S. relations with Qatar Posted: 06 Jun 2017 08:40 AM PDT Trump's comments on Twitter marked a sharp reversal from the White House's pledge just one day earlier to "deescalate" a feud in which Saudi Arabia and three other Arab countries have formally cut diplomatic ties with Qatar and frozen travel to and from the oil-rich nation, accusing it of financing extremists and supporting Saudi Arabia's regional rival, Iran. |

Angry zoo investors feed live donkey to tigers Posted: 06 Jun 2017 05:09 PM PDT Visitors to a Chinese zoo got ringside seats to a shocking live feeding after a group of investors tossed a live donkey into a tiger pit. Apparent videos of the incident, which took place Monday at a wild animal park in the eastern province of Jiangsu, provoked an outraged response on social media, with many questioning how the men could engage in such an inhumane act. In response, the zoo issued a statement on its official Weibo social media account Monday, saying that the incident resulted from a court case with another company, which had enraged investors. |

Inside an ISIS prison in Mosul Posted: 07 Jun 2017 09:24 AM PDT Islamic State built prison cells inside an ordinary villa in Mosul as part of the group's tactic of boosting the safety of its jails and security centers by concealing them among regular houses. Despite their outward appearance, the jails had the regular attributes of state-run detention centers where inmates have their documents and belongings taken away when they arrive, to be given back to them if and when they are released. "This is to keep the prisoners subdued," said the Iraqi military intelligence officer showing the villa to journalists. |

Turkey lawmakers back sending troops to Qatar base: officials Posted: 07 Jun 2017 10:40 AM PDT Turkey's parliament on Wednesday approved deploying troops to a Turkish base in Qatar amid a widening crisis between Doha and its rivals in the Gulf. The move is seen as a sign of Turkish support to Qatar after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain, among other states, cut diplomatic ties and major transport links with the gas-rich emirate. The agreement does not contain any specific number of troops to be stationed in the base, or when. |

YouTube’s most famous PC builder isn’t happy about Intel’s Core i9 Posted: 05 Jun 2017 06:01 PM PDT Last week, Intel dropped the biggest PC news of the last year. The new Core i9 processor series appears to be a big change from the status quo, an attempt to put insanely powerful processors within the reach of home PC builders. By and large, the PC community had the exact reaction you'd expect: excitement, followed by frantic checking of bank accounts. But for Linus Sebastian, the brains behind Linus Tech Tips and YouTube's most famous PC nerd, the reality of Intel's new product lineup doesn't match the hype.
In a fifteen-minute rant, Sebastian explains what he thinks are Intel's less-than-honest motives behind the new i9 and X-series processors and motherboards. You should watch the video to get an understanding of the technical details he's picking on, but the bottom line is that he thinks Intel cooked up the i9 platform as a response to AMD's new Threadripper series, not as an honest attempt to push home computing forwards. There's a number of little details that do point that way. Intel has hinted that a lot of the top-end performance of its new chips will be handicapped if you don't also buy Intel motherboards and Intel SSDs, which is quite blatantly not in the best interests of high-end PC builders. And then there's the problem of vaporware. Most of the really exciting stuff that Intel announced last week won't be ready until the end of the year, which is a much longer wait-for-availability than Intel usually has after the announcement of a new product. It reeks of the fact that this is a reactionary move to steal the spotlight from AMD, rather than a long-planned rollout of a new product line. Ultimately, it's the messenger that makes the message in this case. Sebastian's YouTube channel, Linus Tech Tips, is known for a fairly heavy level of commercialization and collaboration with big tech companies, including Intel. You're much more likely to see a video sponsored by Intel than one tearing Intel apart, which makes this particular rant all the more real. For such a big player to break from the script and annoy the biggest processor company on earth isn't a common occurrence, so more than ever it's worth taking note. |
Get abusive regimes off UN rights council: US envoy Posted: 06 Jun 2017 10:12 AM PDT US envoy Nikki Haley on Tuesday urged the United Nations Human Rights Council to throw out abusive regimes and end what she called its "anti-Israel bias", warning that its credibility was at stake. Haley did not explicitly threaten to quit the body if Washington's concerns were not addressed, a prospect that first emerged in February in a leaked letter by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. "The United States is looking carefully at this council, and our participation in it. |

Mom and daughter recreate kindergarten photo on graduation day and it's just too adorable Posted: 06 Jun 2017 08:25 PM PDT It's difficult to put into words the amount of joy parents feel on graduation day. Gabrielle Yowell, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate from New Albany, Indiana, posted some touching photos of herself and her mother Lizzette that truly captures the emotions of this major milestone. SEE ALSO: Teen recreates her mom's very special graduation photo First day of kindergarten to graduation and my mom is still as proud as ever pic.twitter.com/kkpuesnD2R — Gabrielle螺 (@lilgabsss) June 5, 2017 The image on the left was taken in 2004 on Gabrielle's first day of kindergarten by a photographer from a local newspaper. "I was coming back from school and my mom missed me so so much," Gabrielle told Buzzfeed News when asked about the image. The second photo is adult Gabrielle in her graduation gown, hugging her mom just like the first (except all grown up). The family decided to recreate the important photo; this time with Gabrielle's father as the photographer. Making the moment truly moving, Gabrielle says that her mother battled breast cancer last year, and that Lizzette "fought through it and was able to see me graduate," according to BuzzFeed. Needless to say, Twitter couldn't handle the feels. Posted: 07 Jun 2017 01:54 PM PDT The district is holding a special runoff election between Ms Handel and Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff to fill the seat left vacant when Republican Tom Price was appointed by Donald Trump to be the Secretary of Health and Human services. The opponents were asked to comment on the minimum wage in Georgia, which is currently $5.15 per hour. According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Living Wage Calculator, people working 40 hours a week in the sixth district should make a minimum of $12.01 in order to not have "trouble making ends meet," with Mr Ossoff saying that that is the exact problem many in the district face. |

This is probably the most covert hidden spy cam on the planet Posted: 06 Jun 2017 05:30 PM PDT Okay seriously, this is just brilliant. If you're on the lookout for a spy camera that no one — and we mean no one — will ever find, this is definitely the one. The VERKB Hidden Spy Camera looks just like a normal little wall charger that you would plug a cord into to charge your smartphone or tablet. In fact, if you plug a cord into it and connect your smartphone or tablet, it will charge. But there's also a hidden camera in there that films in 1080p and stores the footage internally. There's 32GB of storage in the device that will save up to 4 hours of full HD footage at 30 fps. This is probably the most covert spy cam on the planet that can be bought by the general public, just please don't use it for anything illegal. Here are some key details from the product page:

The 93-year-old was among about nine leaders to attend the New York conference, which is due on Friday to adopt a "Call to Action" committing to "conserve and sustainably use our oceans, seas and marine resources."
