Head of largest VA union on IAVA Commander-In-Chief Forum: "The Choice Could Not Be More Clear" Posted: 07 Sep 2016 05:55 PM PDT "Since frontline employees exposed the waitlist scandal two years ago, the VA has made great strides to hire more doctors and nurses, reduce wait times for appointments, and ensure more veterans get the care they deserve when and where they need it. "As president, Secretary Clinton will work to continue that progress. "Donald Trump, on the other hand, has insulted Gold Star families, ridiculed Sen. John McCain for being captured in Vietnam, and diminished the honor and sacrifice of every service member. |

How Google aims to disrupt the Islamic State propaganda machine Posted: 07 Sep 2016 10:07 AM PDT The internet is one of the most valuable tools for the Islamic State to spread its vision of radical Islam and lure recruits to the battlefields in Iraq and Syria. Jigsaw, the advanced research outfit created by Google, has developed a technology that would redirect anyone searching terms and phrases associated with supporting the Islamic State (known as IS or ISIS) to instead see antiextremist messages and videos. Google doesn't plan to integrate the effort into its searches on its own – hoping instead to inspire groups fighting IS to implement the method themselves. |

Iran vessel 'harasses,' sails close to U.S. Navy ship in Gulf: U.S. officials Posted: 07 Sep 2016 02:45 AM PDT By Idrees Ali WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Navy coastal patrol ship changed course after a fast-attack craft from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps came within 100 yards (91 meters) of it in the central Gulf on Sunday, U.S. Defense Department officials said on Tuesday. U.S. officials are concerned that these actions by Iran could lead to mistakes. Years of mutual animosity eased when Washington lifted sanctions on Tehran in January after a deal to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions. |

Number of child refugees, migrants projected to rise in US Posted: 06 Sep 2016 09:03 PM PDT NEW YORK (AP) — More than 127,000 children will come to the United States from abroad this year as refugees or unauthorized migrants, up from less than 100,000 in 2015, a research group estimates. |
Soccer-Cahill strikes again to put Australia in driving seat for Russia Posted: 06 Sep 2016 09:00 PM PDT With 15 minutes left on the clock in the stifling Abu Dhabi heat, Tim Cahill shoved his marker aside, got himself on the end of a sublime Brad Smith cross and scored Australia's winner with his first touch. Cahill has scored more spectacular goals for Australia - his stunning volley against the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup comes to mind - but few have been more important. The United Arab Emirates were riding high after beating Japan in their opening match of the decisive third stage of Asian qualifying and would have fancied their chances of a second win in the 30 degrees Celsius temperatures on Tuesday. |
Oliver Stone on Edward Snowden: "America Is Fed Bullshit and We Buy It" (Q&A) Posted: 06 Sep 2016 09:00 PM PDT The outspoken helmer recalls clandestine meetings with the exiled whistleblower, missing his mother's funeral to make 'Snowden' ("I would have had to cut like four days of filming. And we couldn't afford it") and why he cut Donald Trump out of 'Wall Street': "He was good. I have no complaint." |
