Soccer-Roma hit five without Totti, Serie A first for Iraq Posted: 21 Feb 2016 02:41 PM PST AS Roma hammered Palermo 5-0 for their fifth successive Serie A win on Sunday, a triumph overshadowed by coach Luciano Spalletti's decision to drop Francesco Totti and adorned by Edin Dzeko's unreal miss of the season in front of goal. Dzeko recovered from his almost comical blunder to net twice while Mohamed Salah, with his own double, and Seydou Keita also scored to make it an unhappy return to the Palermo bench for coach Giuseppe Iachini, who was recalled last week after being sacked in November. |

Could Edward Snowden get a fair trial if he returned to the US? Posted: 21 Feb 2016 11:37 AM PST Speaking to a New Hampshire audience on Saturday by Skype, Edward Snowden said he would come back to the United States to stand trial if the federal government guaranteed that it would be a fair one. "I've told the government I would return if they would guarantee a fair trial where I can make a public interest defense of why this was done and allow a jury to decide," Mr. Snowden, a US National Security Agency whistleblower, told an audience at the New Hampshire Liberty Forum, an event organized by the Free State Project, a libertarian organization. Viewed as a traitor by some and a patriot by others after his 2013 revelations of mass surveillance by the US government, Snowden was charged with three felonies, including two under the Espionage Act. |

Fiorentina win again, Adnan scores Iraq's first Serie A goal Posted: 21 Feb 2016 09:17 AM PST Third-placed Fiorentina kept up the pressure on Serie A pacesetters Juventus and Napoli with a 3-2 win at Atalanta on Sunday, where all the goals came in a breathless last 25 minutes. Ali Adnan became the first Iraqi player to score a Serie A goal when he hit the target for Udinese at Genoa, although the hosts turned the game around to win 2-1, helped by a late penalty save from Mattia Perin. Carpi's Vid Belec also saved a late penalty from Maxi Lopez as the relegation-threatened side held on for a goalless draw at Torino while Sassuolo's 3-2 win over Empoli featured two harsh red cards and a controversial penalty. |
