After covering civil war in her native Lebanon and the Gulf war of 1990-91, she lived and worked in Egypt during the Islamist insurgency of the mid-1990s. In 2003, she was based in Baghdad throughout the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Now living in London, she has been reporting from Cairo since pro-democracy protests began there last month.
